Tutorial: Learn How To Sign-Off With Ease

Introduction

This quick tutorial is going to give you an overview of the sign-off feature:

  • How it benefits you
  • What it means
  • How to use it

The sign-off feature was created to give you, the publishers, a handy tool for keeping your web content up to date and relevant. This will translate into better web content for your department, and will help keep liberty.edu excellent.

How does it help me?

Here is a quick list of the benefits:

  • Accurate content
  • A better user experience
  • Up to date pages
  • Peace of mind

Gone are the days of old outdated pages lurking in the shadows to avoid detection and deletion! Gone are the days of sneaky broken links burying themselves in content to befuddle users! Let’s welcome in a new era of better web content with sign-offs.

What does it mean?

Sign-offs are a great feature that help increase the accuracy of the University’s web pages and help you, as a Publisher, manage the content of your pages more efficiently.

When you click a page’s sign-off button, you are confirming that the follow things are true for that page:

  • All facts are accurate and have been verified
  • All information is up to date
  • Images are sized appropriately per the web policy
  • Any Links on the page and in the navigation are working correctly: they are linked to the appropriate place and are not broken

If you have trouble remembering what sign-offs mean when you are reviewing pages, there is a handy “What’s this?” link in the sign-offs box that gives you an excellent summary.

How do I use it?

For your convenience, there is a “Pending Sign-Off” box on the Web Manager home page. This gives you easy access to a list of all of the pages that are waiting on your stamp of approval.

Before signing off on a page, you will need to select the length of time that will elapse between sign-offs for that page. If a page has content that needs to be updated frequently, such as an events page, set the sign off period for a shorter length of time. If it is a page that needs to be updated infrequently, such as a mission statement, you can set it for a longer period.

If you review a page and it isn’t up to the standards for a sign-off, then don’t just leave it sitting there! Make whatever updates are needed to bring that page up to par.

Once you are certain the page meets the criteria listed above, and you have set the sign-off period, click the sign-off button. The sign off box will turn an appreciative green and the page will not need to be signed off on again until the set time period is up. Feels great, doesn’t it?
