Purple Thursday

What is Purple Thursday?

Purple Thursday is when survivors and advocates alike come together to help bring awareness to the topic of domestic violence. Purple, being the color of Domestic Violence Awareness Month is what is worn in support for all those who have been in the fight or are currently in the battle with domestic abuse. This is a national awareness day that we are asking our community to take part in.

Why the Color Purple?

The color purple was worn by women during the Women’s Suffrage movement along with white and gold to represent purity, hope, and loyalty. For the brave, the Purple Heart was given to those who either died or were injured as they valiantly served in the armed forces. Purple was chosen to represent domestic violence because it carries a distinguished reputation for the survivors who wear it. It showcases that not only did they survive the battle of abuse, but they fought with honor, courage, freedom, and the power to end future violence.
