Student Feature: Rachel Thompson

Rachel Thompson is one of our featured commuter students.

Coming to Liberty, she decided to pursue a double major in accounting and theater arts. She expressed that her passion is theater but wanted to have a practical degree and growing up loving budging made accounting an easy choice.

Her choice in choosing Liberty was for many reasons. First, her sisters were alumni putting the school on her radar. Second, she wanted to have the option of more than just a theater school with her desire for two majors. Third Rachel explained that she often adopts the personality or behaviors of those around her and knew she wanted to be in a God-centered environment to keep a good influence.

Rachel shares that one of her favorite aspects of being a commuter is the commuter lounge and lounge workers.

“The workers at the commuter lounge are great. You can tell when people are just doing their job and when they are passionate about their job. You can tell they excel. They seem to love their job and want to help it grow and make the most for the commuters they interact with” Rachel said.

It wasn’t until Rachel moved off campus that she was able to get a vehicle and that helped her in her faith as she was able to get more connected to the church and serve more than just on Sunday when restricted by transport. Sharing just how valuable that can be to a commuter to help get them plugged in.

Rachel tries to attend most commuter events so she can get plugged in and connected. Sharing of one event that stood out to her.

“My favorite one was a painting event in Bedford. I loved that it was an easy-going type of event and because there weren’t a ton of people, I got to make connections easier. Plus, I like painting, so it was a bonus” Rachel said.

Advice to Commuters

“The best advice would be to ask questions. Know what you are getting into before making the first step. Whether it is landlords or roommates. Ask a lot of questions so you are walking in fully aware” Rachel said.
