Student Feature: Quinn Davidson

This month Commuter Life interviewed with one of our students, Quinn Davidson, to discuss his experience as a commuter.

Quinn Davidson is a junior commuter student who majors in finance and accounting. Quinn became interested in this degree path in high school.

“I got interested in the stock market when I was in high school and that led me towards finance, and I have stuck with it. I liked the numbers aspect and that while you can work with numbers, you still have a lot of careers that you can work with people as well” Quinn said.

After graduating his tentative plan is to go into investment management.

Quinn initially heard about Liberty University through his youth pastor who attended Liberty and earned a degree in divinity. Quinn shared that he liked that Liberty was a Christian school, so he came up to visit during College For A Weekend. He enjoyed his experience, having a good time with the hall that he stayed on in Commons 1. During the visit Quinn noted that while Liberty was a big school it had a small school feel at the same time.

One thing Quinn shared he wished he knew before coming to Liberty was,  “winning the argument isn’t everything.”

“You don’t always have to win arguments with people” Quinn said. “There’s a lot of people coming in with different opinions and beliefs than you on issues and it’s not always worth it to lose friendships over arguments.”

Quinn had only just become a commuter in August 2022.

He’s enjoyed his commuter experience, especially with having more quiet time than his on-campus experience. It provides him with less distractions and gives more freedom to spend time off campus. Quinn shared diving further in his faith is one of the best benefits from being off campus.

“I would say that being a commuter has allowed me the ability to really focus in on my faith. Being able to be alone for longer periods of time because I’m no longer on a hall with constant distractions. It allows me to focus in and do the reading that I need to do while not feeling pressured to do other things all the time. So, it has been good for my spiritual life,” Quinn said.

The main tip he learned from becoming a commuter is that you need to be proactive. Especially when wanting to meet fellow commuters.

For Quinn one of the most important things to learn about him is that he’s very passionate about his faith. His relationship with Jesus is the most important thing to him. This came from his walk with Christ beginning at a young age.

“I grew up in church all of my life with my dad being a pastor. When I was 8, I made the decision to become a follower in Christ and put all my trust in Him. From there I have been building my walk with Christ.” Quinn said. “Right now, the biggest thing I am focused on is giving myself time for spiritual things all throughout the day. I think that’s very important, so I like to start my day with reading the Word and throughout the day I’ll try to read different spiritual books. Then at night is where I’ll have my quiet and prayer time. So it’s just trying to be constantly engaged with the most important thing in my life, my spiritual life.”

Advice to Commuters

Overall Quinn’s advice to those considering becoming commuters is that being a commuter gives you more time, but you have to make the most use of that time.

“The first thing is that you have the ability to make time for yourself. It’s good for getting your work done if you are academically motivated. It’s also good for your spiritual life as you get the ability to focus in on that” Quinn said.
