Student Feature: Megan Teel

Megan Teel is one of our feature commuter students who recently graduated this year.

During her time at Liberty, she was a Digital media and Journalism major. Initially, she started in marketing, but after taking her Journalism 220 course she knew she needed to make a switch.

Since graduating she is moving to Memphis to work in a year-long internship with a church and hopes to plant roots in Nashville after this next year is up.

Before coming to Liberty she was an LCA student since 6th grade and not wanting to go far from home Liberty was an easy choice for her university.

Growing up her faith started young, but developed later in life.

“I gave my life to Christ when I was six but didn’t fully know what it meant. So, I struggled a lot with identity in middle and high school. I decided to rededicate my life in my senior year of high school, and I have been on fire for the Lord ever since. It has been nice because Liberty has pushed my faith farther than I thought it would go anywhere else” Megan said.

Megan has been a commuter for just her last year of undergrad but shared that the off-campus experience gave her more freedom and a sense of independence. On campus, you feel the Liberty bubble while off campus you’re closer to the outside of it.

Out of all the commuter events she attended this year her favorite was the Christmas event.

“The Christmas event was my favorite. It’s my favorite time of the year and the event did good at making me feel like a five-year-old again” Megan said.

Through these events, Megan shared how she felt about Commuter Life.

“You guys genuinely do your best to make sure we have the same opportunities as people would have on campus and you really try to make it a community and incorporate us into the Liberty atmosphere,” Megan said.

Advice for Commuters

Megan reflects on how a compliment can make an impact as her advice for other commuters.

“Don’t be afraid to reach out and meet people. I think people come to the commuter lounge to do homework and get coffee, but everyone in that lounge is typically a commuter so don’t be afraid to reach out and offer a compliment. I made a friend just by complimenting her outfit one day and now I see her every day and catch up with her. I wouldn’t have it if I hadn’t reached out” Megan said.
