Student Feature: Jake Fischer

Jake Fischer is one of our recently graduated commuter students as well as a former Commuter Life Assistant.

He originally came to Liberty after hearing about the school from a family friend. After hearing about it he toured the school during CFAW and was sold. It had the main things he wanted being a big school that still had its Christian values.

Jake graduated with a business administration degree with a cognate in entrepreneurship. He shares why he chose this route.

“I chose that going into college because my dad started his own company and originally I didn’t want to follow in his footsteps, but I knew I wanted to have the freedom to work when and where I wanted. Entrepreneurship was the best route for that” Jake said.

After his graduation, he is following his plan to move to Florida and use his real estate license to sell residential real estate. He hopes to eventually move up to investing.

Jake reflected on his time as a commuter student sharing how he enjoyed the freedoms it was able to offer over on-campus living. His main two points are the freedom to stay out late and having the ability to cook healthier meals and meal prep throughout the week.

Jake also shared how college helped his faith to grow deeper.

“Being at college has given me the freedom to make the choice to be a Christian myself and not just live off of my parent’s faith. No one would care if I skipped church on a Sunday, but it makes me put my faith on me and gives me the responsibility to do that” Jake said.

Jake reflected on his 2 years of being a CLA. Sharing that he initially became one to spend more time on campus as well as meet other commuter students and engage with them.

Out of the events that he worked on, his favorite was the hockey tailgate. Despite the cold temperature it was fun to dance with his coworkers and fellow commuters.

Advice to Commuters

“Don’t isolate yourself. Get plugged in whether it’s an intramural sport or club. Liberty has so many that there is no excuse that you can’t get plugged in because isolation is not what we were meant for” Jake shared.

He also advised that anyone wanting to be a CLA should be themselves and work to be outgoing, but above all be ready to serve as a student leader.
