Student Feature: Brandon Bullock

Brandon Bullock has been a commuter student for 3 years now. He will be graduating in May. For his degree he decided to pursue his dream of one day being a pilot by doing aviation administration as well as a commercial corporate degree.

For Brandon, aviation has always been his plan. After graduating he hopes to continue this plan by starting his master’s and trying to become a flight instructor.

The start of this path began when he toured Liberty University during CFAW. While he was visiting other colleges, he felt a connection more so here than with any other university. Looking back, he realized he felt called to come to Liberty from God.

He shared about his journey with God stating that he was saved at 13 but didn’t start intentionally walking with Christ until last semester. Brandon noted that it had been a journey of change in this past semester, and he has been intentional on getting more into the word. While he is growing deeper in his faith, he shares that it is still a day-to-day experience.

Brandon reflects that his time with Liberty, especially as a commuter student, has gone well.

“It’s gone well. Whenever I had my group of friends that I found on campus and moved off with it was good. I hung out with them a lot. I made that my circle, but they graduated before me, so I had a year of just focusing on school. But this year has been the most exciting especially with getting involved with Commuter Life. So overall my experience has been good especially once I was able to get involved” Brandon said.

Getting involved was an important lesson for Brandon and one he wished he knew sooner.

“I wish I would have known that the disconnect from campus is very heavy. I know that some people want to do that, but even with having a friend group it can feel like this is all I have, and I don’t have anyone else. So, I wish I would have known that getting involved with Commuter Life and commuter events was more important than I thought they were, before this year” Brandon said.

Advice to Commuters

Brandon continues to reiterate the importance of involvement and how connection helps create those meaningful experiences.

“Get out of your comfort zone and get involved in things. Go to an event even if you don’t feel like going or that you may feel awkward attending. In getting connected you could find your next best friend or even a mentor” Brandon said.
