Making Time for Creativity

Written by Laura Frable, Wellness Coordinator

Ecclesiastes tells us that there is a time for everything. God created you to create, but do you make time for it? God is a creative being, and you are made in His Image. Don’t feel guilty while taking time to connect with your creative side. It can be a wise use of your time. Set aside time to create, and during that time, don’t say to yourself, “I should be doing homework, cleaning, or working on anything else.” Building, painting, and crafting are all good for your brain. They can assist in reducing your stress levels, promote self-esteem and self-awareness, improve your ability to reason, and refine eye-hand coordination. It can also motivate you in other areas of your life. Creating can help generate a vision for a problem or concern you are having. Creativity uses the entire brain and is not just for “right-brained people.” Everyone has creative potential.

Let your stresses melt away.

Find a fun YouTube video that will give you some direction and allow your imagination to soar. There are so many things you can do. Try your hand at some abstract art created by pouring acrylic paint and balloon kissing by Gilly Kube.

If you like impressionism, watch and create along with Jay Lee.

If you want to do crafting, an easy, inexpensive way to get creative is to watch a Dollar Tree crafting video. Perhaps you will be inspired to make your Christmas gifts this year. In this video from Glue Guns and Roses, some high-end-looking crafts are made.

Even if you do not consider yourself creative, you can do this!

Creating is for everyone because we are all made in the image of the greatest creator of all.

I think we can all agree that we serve a God of order. There is order in our universe. God is the ultimate artist who brought order out of chaos. An artist also takes their medium and creates order out of chaos. For instance, a potter takes a lump of clay and creates perhaps a sculpture or pottery. A painter takes paint and a canvas for his creation. A sculptor invokes emotion with whatever medium he prefers. A writer creates with words.

Do not neglect taking time to create. What if God had failed to make time for his creative passion?

“In the beginning, God created….” (Genesis 1:1).
