Prep Your Workspace

We are just preparing for this semester and if you are anything like me, I bet you may already be feeling that bittersweet taste that comes along with every new semester. The summer is coming to an end and those post-summer blues are probably starting to kick in. At the same time, Fall is just around the corner and is promising an exciting fresh new start to the academic year.
As you find yourself in this “in-between” of emotions and hopes for what the semester may have ahead for you, it is crucial to begin planning and prepping the ground for where you will spend most of your time studying. There is no better way to do this than to find the time to prep and declutter your workspace. It is understandable that you may still be finishing unpacking from your move-in or getting settled with class schedules, work shifts, and social life; but clearing out and finding your designated study space is also fundamental.
Be sure to check out the following list of tips and give them a try throughout this week! These are all simple and quick ideas that require little to no time and will make a significant impact on the way you approach studying; As a result, you will be setting yourself up for a successful semester!
Before you start studying, try incorporating some of these tips to prep your study space:
- Designate specific spaces used exclusively to study (Avoid your bed!)
- Schedule your study sessions in advance and set time limits on how long each will last
- Try eliminating distractions (cellphone, tv off, loud noises, etc.)
- Find a well-lit and ventilated space
- Keep a handful of snacks nearby
- Try listening to some calming music in the background (instrumental, jazz, nature sounds)
- Switch up your environment from time to time (Commuter lounge, the Library, your dorm)
