Amidst the pandemic, taking on a new form of physical activity became the norm. Some people took on various workout plans and for others, walking was plenty. Walking for some became an activity to keep them from staying in the house. For others, it became their outlet or hobby. According to Health Harvard (5 surprising benefits of walking – Harvard Health), there are many benefits of walking. Some include; decreased cardiac risk factors, lowering or managing cholesterol, managing blood pressure, and decreasing the risk or symptoms of diabetes. Why not include something easy and manageable in your routine such as walking? Walking is one of the easiest ways to get started and dodge the intimating task of taking on a rigorous workout plan. To make walking a habit, implement small changes that will make a long-term lifestyle change. I read a quote by John Maxwell that says “You will never change your life until you change you something you do daily”.
Whether walking becomes a part of your morning routine, or your midday stroll, research shows that regular walking can improve your mood, reduce fatigue, and give you that boost of energy to get you through the day. Walking can also improve your mental clarity and give you the creativity that you need to complete a major project. Furthermore, walking allows for creative flow, which can assist with problem-solving (Walking for Health and Fitness — Walking for Health and Fitness). I want to encourage you to make walking a part of one of your daily habits by walking one of our campus walking routes. We have various routes, ranging from easy to hard. Here are some easy routes you can try and let us know if you enjoyed it!
Blue route | Takes you by Commons, the Academic Lawn, the Tower, University Blvd. | 1 mile
Red route | Takes you by the Runk & Pratt Garage, East Campus, Football Stadium, University Blvd | 1.2 miles
