Registering for Classes

Nov 7, 2022 • Victoria V.

When I was getting ready to come to Liberty, I had no clue what to do when it came to registering for classes. Luckily, I had on one my college friends help me or else I would have shown up to college with no classes. If you are lost or have questions on registering for your first semester classes at Liberty, read below to learn what steps you should take to make a solid schedule.

Step 1: Go to the Course Registration website

Visit Liberty.edu/CourseRegistration and log in with your Liberty username and password. You can also access class registration through your myLU account.

Step 2: Look at your Degree Completion Plan (DCP)

When you get to the official course registration page, there will be a tab labeled “Degree Completion” near the top of the screen. This plan lays out every single class you will need to complete during your time at Liberty. This will also be nice to have open because in order to search a class, you must type in the official four-letter name and number of the class. Your DCP has all of this information ready at your disposal.

Step 3: Get Familiar with your required classes

If you are first-semester freshman, you will only be allowed to register for lower-level classes. A majority of students choose to take their General Education (Gen-Ed) classes the first year to ease into college. You will not be able to take every single Gen-Ed your first semester, so write down which ones you want to take. These can include ENGL 101, EVAN 101, COMS 101, and much more.

 Step 4: Officially Register

Now that you have your DCP and registration split-screened on your computer, it is time to register for your classes! Type in the name and number of your course in the term “Fall 2023,” and the website will take you to all the available options for the specific class! You can also choose the option to show either classes that are residential, online, or both. Once you click “Enter,” the class availabilities will pop up, showing you the professor, time of day, and days of the week of the class. When you see an option that you are satisfied with, click the class and select “Add This Course.” If you look to the left of your screen, you will see the class appear on your schedule! Continue this step until all of your desired classes are added.

BONUS TIP: You do not have to register for every class one at a time with the power of your course shopping cart. Right underneath the “Register for Course” button, there is a “Add to Cart” option. You can add your proposed classes to your cart that appears on the left side of the screen. This way, you can look at all of your potential classes and easily map out the time of each class to ensure nothing conflicts with your schedule.

Extra Steps:

If a Class is Full: There will be times when you go to register for a class, but every section is full. Do not fear just yet! You have the chance to be added to the waitlist for the class. This means that when a person drops out of the class, the next spot will be offered to a student on the waitlist. You will receive an email from course registration when a spot opens up, and you have 24 hours to add yourself to the class before the spot is offered to the next person in line. If you are on the waitlist for a class, keep an eye out for an alert from your Liberty email!

This may seem like an overwhelming process, but this is the unique experience when something is easier done than said. If you want to follow along with a video example, visit Liberty.edu/Tutorial. You can also contact the Office of Admissions for assistance or any additional questions you may have.
