What CFAW Will Look Like Amid COVID-19

Oct 8, 2020 • Rachel F.

Attending College For A Weekend (CFAW) is the reason I decided to go to Liberty University, and I encourage everyone looking at colleges to go at least once. There is no other college visit like CFAW, and it will give you the full experience of what it’s like to be a student. Visiting colleges in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t ideal, but we understand the importance of making an informed college decision. That’s why we’re dedicated to providing you an exceptional and safe CFAW experience. While CFAW will look different this November, it will still be just as fun and exciting as it normally is. Here is a rundown of what to expect and how you can prepare for our November 2020 CFAW!

Health and Safety Regulations

The health and safety of students and visitors is our top priority, and for that reason, a mask policy is enforced. In accordance with guidelines set forth by the state of Virginia, it is asked that those on campus wear a mask in all campus buildings and outdoors when social distancing is not possible. In addition to wearing a mask, it is also asked that social distancing be maintained when possible.

Groups

If you are bringing a group of 10 or more students to CFAW, Liberty has made your planning easier! If a group leader registers by Oct. 29, 2020, hotel accommodations and meals will be provided to group leaders for free. If additional rooms are needed for students, the group leader will need to arrange that.

Housing and Dining

To keep the student body safe, CFAW attendees will not be housed in residential dorms this year, but a list of local accommodations has been provided. Since students cannot stay in the dorms, CFAW will be free and the $50 registration fee will be waived to help offset lodging expenses. Not to worry though, while students will not be able to stay in the dorms, they will still be able to tour and visit our model dorm rooms around campus and see college dorms up close! Students will also receive their very own guest Flames Pass for the weekend. The guest Flames Pass gets you into events and different places on campus such as our nationally-ranked dining hall for some of the best college food you’ve ever had!

Convocation and Classes

This fall semester, Convocation is not being held in the Vines Center; it will be livestreamed for CFAW guests. While you may not be able to attend Convocation in person, you’ll still worship with the Liberty Worship Collective and learn from a great speaker — you don’t want to miss it! When it comes to classes, CFAW students will be able to attend classes as usual and hear from the amazing professors we have here at Liberty.

Things to Keep in Mind

As mentioned, college visits look different for everyone this year, so in preparation for a fun weekend, here are a few things to remember! The mask policy is enforced, so make sure you have your mask with you at all times and social distance. Attendees can review our standard packing list for what to bring but they don’t need to bring a pillow or sleeping bag since they won’t be staying in the dorms.

College For A Weekend is truly an unforgettable experience and while it may look different this year, the impact is still the same. We hope to see you at CFAW this November where you’ll experience campus life and all that Liberty has to offer from fun activities to classes to dining!
