Internship Opportunities at Liberty University
Apr 7, 2021 • Graham B.
College is a time for learning, and Liberty University recognizes that there are many ways to learn. Classrooms are a great place to get information, but you need a place to put that information into practice. Internships provide exactly that, and Liberty offers a number of avenues for completing them. Internships are an excellent way to gain real-world experience and academic credit, build your résumé, and explore and launch a rewarding career.
Fellowships
Many Liberty students find internship opportunities through the Washington and New York City Fellowships. These fellowships give students amazing hands-on experience, networking opportunities, and much more. The fellowships are offered each semester in the fall, spring, and summer. Participating students move to either Washington, D.C., or New York City for the entirety of the semester. Students are placed in housing with fellow Liberty students, and metro cards are provided each month for transportation. Students gain real-world experience, all while still under the umbrella of Liberty. In addition, financial aid and scholarships are applicable to the fellowship programs!
Additional Internships
Liberty has connections to many companies and organizations around the globe, which makes it easy for Liberty students to find internship opportunities. Two specific organizations that Liberty partners with are The Walt Disney Company and Parker-Dewey. The Disney College Program allows participants to network with leaders, take part in personal and career development classes, and build transferable skills, all at the most magical place on earth. Parker-Dewey offers micro-internships, which are short-term, paid, professional assignments that are similar to those given to new hires or interns. Micro-internships are a great option for students seeking to gain experience without committing to an extended internship.
Handshake
Handshake is a platform similar to LinkedIn and other job boards, but is unique in that it is designed specifically for schools and employers. Students fill out their profiles with their experience and any other relevant information, and employers can search for the right candidates for internships and jobs. Handshake also connects students and employers through career fairs, virtual meetups, and more. Handshake brings the best career opportunities to campus and onto the platform just for students and alumni.
How Does Liberty Help?
Liberty wants its students to learn as much as possible during their time here, whether that is in the classroom or out in the workforce. They give students all of the support they need to pursue their dreams. There are faculty internship advisors for each school at Liberty, all available to help students secure an internship. In addition, most internships can be completed for school credit, helping students to stay on track for graduation.
