Expenses can be a large factor when trying to decide where you want to attend college. It is always important to consider your options and how you will be able to afford the university of your dreams. I’m going to explain some of the financial aid options available to you at Liberty University, as well as some general tips for affording college.

Scholarships Awarded by Liberty

Liberty offers around 25 different undergraduate residential scholarships to help make its Christ-centered education available to as many people as possible. In fact, 96% of Liberty students receive financial aid! The qualifications for scholarships range from awarding high achievers to supporting children of fallen soldiers. First things first: you’ll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA will allow you to be considered for financial aid from Liberty and the federal government.  Some of the scholarships at Liberty are limited to pretty specific qualifications, but there are a few that a large portion of students who attend Liberty receive.

Many students receive some amount of academic scholarship. The Liberty Academic Scholarship is awarded based upon your high school or college GPA and your ACT, SAT, or CLT score. This scholarship ranges from $1,750 to full tuition per year. Scholarships like this are why you should work hard for a high GPA and standardized test score. Your hard work could earn you a free education!

Some scholarships don’t require any previous academic accomplishment. The Champion Award is a common scholarship awarded to most undergraduate residential students at Liberty. This scholarship is awarded incrementally, increasing gradually from $1,000 in the first year to $2,750 in the fourth year. Meanwhile, up to $600 of New Student Book Dollars can be awarded based on how early one completes Financial Check-In. The Early Deposit Award is one scholarship that does not require any special qualifications and is awarded to new students based on when they submit your Enrollment Deposit. In addition, the $2,000 early action scholarship contest requires no qualifications other than meeting all four admission priority deadlines and submitting a video.

There are plenty of other scholarships, such as the Middle America scholarship that can provide up to $5,495 based upon your family’s expected family contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA.

As I said previously, there are around 25 resident undergraduate scholarships at Liberty University, so you’ll need to explore them all for yourself. To see which ones you may qualify for, click here.

External Aid

In addition to the financial aid offered by Liberty, there are many other forms of external aid that you can seek. When you complete the FAFSA, you will be considered for federal aid. This includes federal subsidized and unsubsidized loans, federal grants, and more. Federal student aid is a great tool for making your dream of attending college a reality.

Another very important financial aid option is external scholarships. Global businesses and local businesses alike happily support millions of college students with scholarship money each year. Liberty offers a free virtual seminar called Scholarship Search 101 that teaches tips and techniques for successful online scholarship searches. This seminar can teach you how to search the web for external scholarships or reach out to local businesses and ask if they would be willing to support you on your journey toward higher education.

College expenses don’t have to be as daunting as they are made out to be. If you work hard in high school, there are plenty of college scholarships and other financial aid options that you can earn. Liberty wants to make a world-class, Christian education available to as many people as possible and is willing to work with you on financial aid. If you have any questions regarding the FAFSA, loans, grants, or scholarships call our Financial Aid Office at (434) 582-2270.
