Intramural Sports at Liberty

Did you participate in sports in high school and want to continue that in college? Liberty University offers a wide range of athletic communities to be a part of, and many students find that intramural sports are a perfect fit for them! Whether you want to play the same sports that you played in high school or try something new, you’ll find the right sport for you through intramurals.

What are intramural sports? Intramural sports are organized, recreational sports leagues right here on campus. You can choose from more than 20 sports in both team and individual settings. Intramurals are perfect for students who want to continue to play sports in a more recreational setting than Club Sports and our NCAA Division I athletics teams.

What sports does Liberty offer? Liberty offers your typical team sports such as intramural basketball, softball, and football, but it also offers more unconventional sports like Spikeball, racquetball, bowling, and disc golf. This gives you the opportunity to continue to build skills in sports as well as branch out to try something new! And don’t think that just because intramurals are more recreational than NCAA sports that they aren’t competitive and exciting. In the quarterfinals of intramural basketball in Fall 2019, hundreds of spectators packed the gym to cheer their friends on to victory. The game was so exciting that they had a rematch with thousands of spectators during the halftime of one of the NCAA men’s basketball games.

My experience with intramurals: From personal experience, I would highly recommend trying an intramural sport during your time at Liberty. I have participated in both indoor soccer and bowling and had a great time playing both. I had never played either of these sports competitively, but the intramural leagues were a great place to try them out! With all of my other commitments, I was originally worried that I might not be able to fit sports in. However, teams typically only play once or twice per week, which easily accommodates a busy schedule.

Intramural athletic leagues are a great way to continue being involved in sports and have fun! With the variety of sports that Liberty offers, be sure to take advantage of this opportunity during your time here.
