Rocking Around the Campus Tree

Dec 7, 2018 • Ellie J.

With a hot chocolate in my hand and a warm hat on my head, I sang Christmas carols along with crowds of Liberty students, faculty, families, and a full choir.  What else could this be, other than the annual Liberty Christmas Tree Lighting?

Christmas in Lights begins the Christmas season on campus each year.  For college students, the weeks in between Thanksgiving and Christmas can be stressful with finals and wrapping up the semester.  But events like this one, Christmas Convocation, Christmas Coffeehouse, and more, make this season a little less stressful and bring a lot more joy.  I’ve absolutely loved this event the past two years, but this time around was particularly memorable.

An evident excitement and wonder appeared as this was the first year the Tree Lighting was on the Montview Lawn.  My Mom and Step-Dad moved to Lynchburg very recently (insert happy me jumping up and down) and getting to take pictures with Santa together, grab some Rookies cookies, and spend time with my friends was so special and sweet.

Our President, Jerry Falwell, wished the student body a Merry Christmas and with a loud countdown, the Christmas Tree was lit with shining lights and beautiful red bows.  Everyone snapped a picture by the tree as a special performance by Judd Harris played in the background.  Christmas on Campus is such a wonderful time of the year and this night kicked it off just right.

Merry Christmas!
