Plenty to Do During Parents’ Weekend!

Oct 3, 2018 • Abby B.

My roommate is SO excited for Fall Family Weekend coming up on October 12-14. She can’t wait to see her family and show them around Lynchburg, and she’s already making plans for everything they want to do. If you’re a student trying to figure out where you should take your parents or a parent wanting to plan your visit to LU, this blog is for you! Here are five things you should put on your Family Weekend itinerary:

1. Sports.

Mom and Dad, you definitely have to visit the remodeled Williams Stadium while you’re in town! The Flames are playing Troy University on Saturday, so stop by the Family Tailgate, visit the Flames Fan Fest (it’s inside the indoor practice facility!), and be in your seats by kickoff at 2 p.m.! If football isn’t your thing, make plans to attend the hockey games or the volleyball match. The LaHaye fitness center and Snowflex will be open for families as well! Buy tickets here.

2. Arts.

If you enjoy the fine arts, you won’t want to miss Liberty’s production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Showings are scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so buy your tickets in advance and enjoy supporting our talented students! There’s also an Art Expo Showcase in the LaHaye Lobby on Saturday at 1 p.m. Our students here at Liberty are incredibly creative, and I personally love seeing their work on display! Buy tickets for the play here.

3. Scaremare.

A fall tradition here at Liberty is Scaremare, a haunted house experience created with the goal of answering the question, “What happens after I die?” Thousands of people travel to Lynchburg to journey through this experience, and hundreds of LU students volunteer at this event. It’ll be open every evening during Family Weekend! For tickets and more info, click here.

4. Classes & Churches.

Of course, the main reason you’re in town this weekend is to see your student! If your student has a class they particularly love, feel free to attend with them and meet their professor. On Sunday, visit the church your student attends while he or she lives here in Lynchburg! There are so many incredible churches to get plugged into, so go check them out!

5. Lynchburg.

There is so much more to our lovely town than just Liberty University. Take a drive and go explore our city! Visit downtown and wander through the shops or find a local restaurant and spend time with your family over a meal. We have several apple orchards in the area, and you can also hike through the mountains to see some incredible views. Lynchburg is a beautiful place to live, so let your student show you around!

I hope you enjoy your time in Lynchburg during Fall Family Weekend!
