3 Tips to Find Scholarships

Sep 19, 2018 • Abby B.

Let’s face it, college can be expensive. And if you’re able to smash your piggy bank and find enough pennies and nickels to cover your tuition, please let me know your secrets!

1. Look at Liberty.

Congratulations- you aren’t alone. Most students struggle to find the money to pay for their schooling because dollar bills simply don’t grow on trees. However, Liberty understands that you need assistance, so our financial aid office compiled a handy-dandy list of scholarships that LU offers to incoming, transfer, current, and online students. If you’re looking for scholarship opportunities, check out this link here.

2. Consider Your Community.

If you’re hoping to find scholarships from outside the university, look at websites such as Fast Web and Big Future. Ask the guidance counselors at your school if they have recommendations for scholarship sites too. Your counselors often know of scholarships local to your community! Banks, nonprofits, and chapters of organizations in your community will sometimes offer scholarships to local students, so ask around! Don’t be afraid to ask for help finding scholarship opportunities, and don’t sleep on small cash scholarships either. They may not cover your tuition expenses, but don’t forget that you’ll need to buy textbooks every semester!

3. Work for What You Want.

Exhaust every possible avenue for finding scholarships. Get a job at a company that offers tuition assistance after working for them for a few years, and work hard for promotions. Research, research, and research some more! Don’t give up if you don’t land a stellar scholarship immediately; keep applying! Even if you never receive a huge scholarship, several small ones will add up over time. Continue looking and applying; you can do this!
