Top Three Things to Do Outdoors at Liberty
The outdoors… So many thoughts come to mind when those two words are said: fun, adventurous, peaceful, rejuvenating, and many more. Being outdoors, whether it is hiking or just laying out on a lawn, can be a great break from the stressors of life. Thankfully, Liberty University has some great options for getting outside. Here are three of my favorites:
Hydaway Outdoor Recreation Center. Hydaway is the perfect place to go and hide from the busyness of life. Tucked away on Liberty Mountain, it offers a variety of outdoor activities. These include swimming, fishing, kayaking, sand volleyball, hammocking, and more. Personally, I love to play a few games of sand volleyball and then jump into the lake! The Outfitter at Hydaway Outdoor Recreation Center offers rental equipment for mountain biking, hiking, camping, and water sports. These rentals can be used for free on-site, or for a small fee to be used off-site. Whether you’re wanting a fun day trip with friends, or a relaxing solitary get-away, Hydaway is the perfect place!
Liberty Mountain Trail System. This trail system consists of more than 50 miles of trails. It encompasses Liberty Mountain, which allows for both cross-country and gravity-fed trails for hiking and mountain biking. In addition, the mountain’s 1,360-foot rise in elevation provides a stunning view of the city! My favorite place to go and watch the sunset is at the Liberty University Monogram, where you can get a perfect view of the sun setting over the city.
Outdoor sports. Liberty offers a wide variety of venues to play outdoor sports at. There are many recreational fields where students can play football or soccer, as well as many sand courts for sand volleyball. Aside from that, students are always out on the lawn throwing a frisbee, playing Spikeball, and just lying in the sun!
Being outdoors is so important for both mental and physical health. Liberty’s campus is the perfect place to ensure that you are getting all of the outdoor time that you need!
