What is hospitality management?

Have you ever been to a luxury hotel? You enter the lobby and the smiling receptionist quickly and efficiently checks you in. You then walk through a clean, well-lit hallway to your cozy and relaxing room. Should you order room service or wander around and try the restaurant located on the hotel’s ground floor?

These are all examples of the many diverse areas that fall under hospitality management. Making sure that the hotel or resort is warm and welcoming is the first task that comes to mind when you think of this field. You can also need to make sure that the different areas of the hotel or resort are all integrated. This means keeping up with the technology that lets you efficiently manage a large operation with many moving parts such as food service, maintenance, housekeeping, sales, marketing, and more.
