Sift Week 3 – Josh Rutledge

Overview

Tonight in Campus Community, we unpacked the most essential truth– Jesus is Lord. The fact that Jesus is Lord gives us the freedom to give liberty, charity and love because He is on the throne. The Christian life is the victorious life because Jesus won. However, we do not always live like we believe Jesus is Lord. At times we aren’t fully convinced, but the Lord in His graciousness continues to invite us. When we realize that Jesus is already on the throne and sitting at the right hand of the father, we are liberated to give charity and love to believers and unbelievers. We can do this because we know, no matter– if someone agrees or disagrees with us, will not change the fact that Jesus is on the throne. Jesus is in control. Even in times where it seems like He is not. The ultimate truth is and forever is, Jesus is Lord.

Verses

“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:5-11

“Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.” – Hebrews 2:8

“So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.” – Luke 17:10

Quotes

“An essential is any truth which, if denied or misrepresented, nullifies the gospel.” – Jen Wilkin
