WAKE UP Week 5 – David Nasser

Overview:

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been talking about how an Awakening is the raising of the dead and the waking of those who are asleep. There are three desires your hearts have that invite God’s presence. The first H is Hunger which is yearning for the Presence of God. The second H is Holiness which honors a set apart God with a life that is set apart. Tonight Pastor David presented the third H which is Humility.

Humility is seeing and valuing both yourself and others as God does. In this world, pride is a virtue and humility is a vice. Meekness is associated with weakness in culture, but God views humility as a virtue of holiness. As much as humility will attract the manifest presence of God, pride will attract the manifest presence of Satan. Humility comes when we understand how God views us, which is dead, helpless, and bankrupt, but He will always view us through a lens of grace. When pride creeps into our life it will bring comparison and discontentment. When we humble ourselves before God, we realize the necessity of the manifest presence of God in every aspect of our life.

Quotes:

“His Presence (face) more than His provision (hand)”

“The greatest test of whether the holiness we profess to seek is authentic will be whether it produces an increasing humility in us. In man, humility is the one thing needed to allow God’s holiness to dwell in him and shine through him. The chief mark of counterfeit holiness is lack of humility. The holiest will be the humblest” -A.W. Tozer

Verses:

Ephesians 2:4

“4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,”

James 4:6

“6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”

Questions:

1) Are you longing for the presence of God in your life or your longing is for things of this world? Is your desire for God the strongest desire of your heart? If not, what are those things you desire more than Him?

2) Are you scared that by showing humility people will think you are weak or think less of you? Should believers be concerned about that?  (See Galatians 1:10)

3) Which areas of your life are being ruled by pride? Are you celebrating pride in any form or way? What are ways that you can think of ways to fight the pride you are celebrating or the pride that is ruling areas of your life? Are you willing and ready to give them up or is your pride so strong you truly have no desire to do so?

4) God sees you as dead, helpless and bankrupt without Jesus, can you compromise with who you are without God? How is it hard for you to accept the constant need for God in your life?

5) In which facets of your life do you say “God, I need you”? Is that the state of your soul for everything in your life or more of a circumstance kind of mentality (finances, friends, family)? Explain why and how.
