WAKE UP Week 4 – David Nasser

Overview:

The desire of God for the people of God is to have awakening. Awakening is when there is a lot of salvation and sanctification in the hearts of those who are redeemed. The possibility of a local and national awakening is stirring, and the evidence of this is a revival happening in our own hearts. We have been looking at what it means to be looking for the manifestation of God in his people, last week we saw God loves a hungry person and one who will run to those who are hungry, as often seen through the Scripture.

The second “H” is holiness. Holiness is a person then it is an attribute. Holiness is God set apart, being sacred, and pure! God is wholly set apart and pure, and He loves a people who are this very image, Holy! God loves a holy people. As a believer, it is our motivation to be motivated in the Holy Spirit to live holy, set apart lives. With God working in us we don’t become a haughty people, but a holy people because it is Christ “working in us both to will and to do His good pleasure.” His good pleasure in us is a set apart vessel for his use. We, as a called out people, need to be yearning for God to make us be like Him. We need to be growing every day to be “Holy as He is Holy!” Not by our own works, lest we boast, but by an empowering of the Holy Spirit. The yearning of our life is for God, His holiness, and we confess that this yearning is not our own ability, but the Spirit is working it out in us.

Verses:

Isaiah 6:1

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.

Ephesians 4:20

But that is not the way you learned Christ!—

Ephesians 4:30

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Psalm 15

O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?
Who shall dwell on your holy hill?

2 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
and speaks truth in his heart;
3 who does not slander with his tongue
and does no evil to his neighbor,
nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised,
but who honors those who fear the Lord;
who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5 who does not put out his money at interest
and does not take a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things shall never be moved.

Psalm 41:12

But you have upheld me because of my integrity,
and set me in your presence forever.

Hebrews 12:14

Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

Romans 6:1

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?

Quotes:

The Holy Spirit won’t leave but He will grieve! The Holy Spirit won’t quit but he will quench.

Holiness is the work of the Holy Spirit.

Holiness is God being set apart, sacred, perfect, pure. God is the very definition of Holiness

“Responsibility is our response to God’s ability” – Adrian Rogers

Nowhere can we get to know the holiness of God, and come under His influence and power,  except in the inner chamber.

Questions:

1) To grieve the Holy Spirit is a very real thing. What are ways in our life that can sadden or quench the Holy Spirit?

2) What does it mean to you that the Holy Spirit won’t quit in your life, even after you have quenched him?

3) As we look at the three attributes that attract the manifest presence of God, Hunger, Holiness, and Humility, how do Hunger and Holiness display themselves in your life?

4) Explain what it means that God is attracted to “holy” people and why?

5) Describe what it means to have the anointing of God on your life? What does that look like or would look like in your life?

6) Our insatiable hunger to be “a part” fights God’s call for us to be “set apart”. What does being “set apart” look like for you?

7) It has been well said: “No man can expect to make progress in holiness who is not often and long alone with God.” – Andrew Murray  How does your present walk with the Lord look in light of this quote?
