WAKE UP Week 1 – David Nasser
Overview:
Tonight is the beginning our new series called “Wake Up.” Together, we will explore what means to be “awake” as believers.
We begin with the Ephesian church, whom both Paul and John had written letters to, urging them to come alive again. In comparison to the Galatian church, the Ephesians did not struggle with false doctrine. They had their doctrine locked down! Instead of struggling with the “what” of doctrine, they struggled with the “so what.” The church in Ephesus believed their doctrine, but did not apply it. They were hindered by their constant need for stimulation, praise, and being right. They were also hindered by the very blessings of God which had become a curse to them. The Ephesian church had fallen asleep and God was calling them to wake up. In the same way, He is calling us to wake up! The American church bears many similarities to the Ephesian church. Like them, our own revival will begin with confession rather than perfection. Awakening, waking up from spiritual sleep and resurrection from spiritual death, begins with brokenness and confession.
Verses
