CSER with Lynchburg City Schools
LU Serve and the School of Education have partnered with Lynchburg City Schools to provide a unique service opportunity. Volunteers will be able to serve local schools in a variety of areas:
All-In Tutoring
Lynchburg City Schools is in need of volunteers to support their “All-In” Tutoring Initiative for 3rd – 8th grade students. Each of our school sites has developed a 1-hour tutoring block specific to their building. Anyone interested in volunteering, please provide what days/times you’d be available and you will be matched to a school within the division.
For consistency purposes – we ask that you commit to your assignment for the duration of the semester! Thank you.
Girls on the Run
– This opportunity would provide LU students with 20 CSER hours a semester (Fall/Spring)
– It is a 10-week after school program that meets 2 days a week (approx. 3:45 – 5:15 PM) at various school sites (Elementary/Middle) within LCS.
– GOTR is looking for approximately 2-3 CSER students for every 15 – 20 of our students.
– There is coach training available for those interested in August 6th (5 – 8 PM) & August 25th (1 – 4 PM) – they only need to attend “1” of them. If they just want to provide support to existing coaches/no training would be needed.
General Opportunities
Are you interested in supporting K-12 students outside of the traditional mentoring/tutoring route? Lynchburg City Schools is looking for additional support throughout the day in areas such as recess monitoring, lunch buddies, academic support (reading, math, science), special education, STEM, faculty/staff support, and much more! You will have an opportunity to be integrated into the culture/climate of our various schools and become part of the team! We are asking that you be willing to provide consistency to our students and faculty/staff by supporting them for the duration of the semester (at least 1 hour a week). Thank you for your willingness and we look forward to working with you!
