General Selection (Any Major)

Transform your passion for health into community service. Students who are majoring in any Health Science degree are encouraged to explore these opportunities as a way of investing in the wider LU and Lynchburg community. These organizations offer general ways to serve others that are related to health and human services.

Students can work alongside faculty and staff within the School of Health Sciences, serve with other on-campus departments, serve with an SGA club, or get involved with a long-term care facility. There are great opportunities that can build career skills that align with your passion for service.

Allied Health Professions

Allied Health Profession majors are encouraged to focus on service related to physical health and athletics. These organizations are great opportunities to put your education in practice and meet the needs of others. If you like to work with youth sports, the YMCA system or LCA is a great place to start. Connect your passion for physical training and exercise to community initiatives through a care center and health program.

Biology & Chemistry

Biology & Chemistry majors have several opportunities to put their research talents and skills to work in the community and the environment. Conduct research with faculty in the science labs on campus. Get involved with local health facilities such the Free Clinic or Virginia Baptist Hospital. Put your passion for ecology and zoology to use by serving at Lynchburg Grows, the Humane Society, or Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue.

For those interested in the medical field, serving at the American Red Cross or through SGA MedServe are great ways to build career skills while meeting the needs of those in the community.

Public & Community Health

Students majoring in Public & Community Health should consider serving directly with faculty in the Department of Public & Community Health or through SGA clubs such as Autism Speaks, FIMRC, and the Public Health Student Association. You can even help out with the American Cancer Society and the Red Cross Club. Each of these avenues of service is a fantastic way to connect your education with real-world needs while building your resume for a future career in public health.
