Domestic Travel
Through LU Send, Liberty University strives to partner with faculty and staff to provide quality academic experiences with minimal risk to the students. With that in mind, here are some policies that have been put in place, along with some guidelines that can assist with providing a positive experience for our students.
Trip Proposal Process
Please contact Audrey Hammond, Director of Academic Operations, by email or phone (434-592-4204), to learn more about the proposal process. For all other inquiries, please email lusend@liberty.edu
Domestic Travel Policies
Trips that are overnight and/or more than 50 miles from Liberty University
All excused absences that are overnight, or outside of Lynchburg and the surrounding areas are to be submitted to LU Send directly for the following reasons:
-
- All overnight trips are required to meet certain university standards that LU Send will ensure are clearly communicated to faculty, and policies and procedures are being met
- Anything overnight, or outside of the greater Lynchburg area (within 50 miles) require the student to sign an Assumption of Risk Form. LU Send will work with the faculty and student to make sure this is taken care of.
These requests are submitted through the LU Send Faculty Gateway at www.liberty.edu/send
LU Send will seek required approvals depending on the length and involvement needed in each trip.
All forms must be approved by the Dean of the faculty member’s department prior to being processed.
Proposal Deadlines
All of the proposal dates are hard deadlines.
*The dates below are for trips that are overnight and/or more than 50 miles from LU. They also operate as a full LU Send trip (i.e Logistics, budget, LU Send holistic model, excused absence, out-of-bed request, etc. are all done by LU Send.) Proposals should be sent in 9 months before departure.
- Fall 2021 | February 15th, 2021
- JAN (Spring Semester) Trips 2022 | April 1st, 2021
- Spring 2022 | June 15th, 2021
- Summer 2022 (May/June) | August 15th, 2021
- Summer 2022 (July/August) | October 1st, 2021
If your trip does not require logistical support, budget, or academic credit, you will need to submit all proposals within a month of departure. This will give us enough time to get excused absence requests and approvals, assumption of risk approvals, and out-of-bed requests in time for your departure. If you are not able to make your request in this time frame, please email lusend@liberty.edu for further information.
Faculty/Staff Travel
International Faculty Travel (not with a group): All international travel for University purposes must be registered with LU Send a minimum of 2 weeks before the dates of travel so that proper insurance can be purchased. Departments should budget for international health and travel insurance when planning international travel. The cost is $2.42 a day.
Register Individual International Travel
Non-University International Group Travel
Any Faculty member participating in international group travel opportunities that are not related to the University, but has Liberty University students attending (i.e. church mission trips) should be disclosed to LU Send no later than 3 weeks before travel. This short disclosure form can be found through the Faculty/Staff Resources portal at www.liberty.edu/send. In addition to registration, none of these international opportunities are to be presented or marketed to Liberty University students on campus without express written permission from LU Send. Under certain circumstances, student participants will be asked to sign a hold-harmless agreement/disclosure furnished by LU Send.
