Rationale
“Applied linguistics is using what we know about (a) language, (b) how it is learned, and (c) how it is used, in order to achieve some purpose or solve problem in the real world.” (Schmitt & Celce-Murcia, 2002, p. 1). General linguistics is primarily concerned with analyzing language and theorizing linguistic principles, but applied linguistics makes use of the linguistic theories/principles to understand and resolve language-related problems that people experience in the real world, whether they be language learners, language teachers, or translators. Through this course, students will gain invaluable insights into the interdisciplinary aspects of human language and learn how to apply these insights into various language learning and teaching environments to be resourceful and creative.
