SMGT 699 Internship
Course Description
Placement with a sport or recreation management organization for a controlled learning experience with the student’s career specialization area. A minimum of 400 hours of internship are required for graduation (3 credits at 200 hours; 6 credits at 400 hours).

Rationale
The Liberty University Career Center and the Graduate Director work collaboratively with students to identify, pursue, and select internships in positions within a wide variety of sport industry segments including but not limited to: professional sport organizations, national sport governing bodies, intercollegiate athletic departments, collegiate associations and conferences, sport marketing and promotion agencies, sport federations and commissions, facility and event management companies, regional and national sport events, or with various other sport organizations.
Each internship is an intensive on-the-job learning experience with a sport organization that is arranged for a minimum of 400 total hours. Arrangements are finalized through an internship contract signed by the student, a representative from the sponsoring agency, and the Department of Sport, Event, & Tourism Management. All hours must be completed by the end of the respective semester.
Course Assignment
Code of Conduct Statement Assignment
The Code of Conduct must be completed by the student and submitted during the first week of the course. The signed code of conduct form ensures that the student understands the behavioral and performance expectations for the course.
Introduction Assignment
The student will introduce the internship site and discuss specific, pre-internship expectations. The student will list desired personal and professional goals to achieve during the time as an intern.
Time Log & Journal Assignments (4)
A Time Log should be completed by the student in order to journal the activities and responsibilities of the student throughout the duration of the internship. An Excel file is provided in Canvas for use by the student.
Note: Additional Time Logs due at Mid-Term and Final are described separately.
Time Log & Journal: Mid-Term
A Mid-Term Time Log & Journal should be completed by the student in order to document the activities and responsibilities of the student throughout the duration of the internship. Although this log must be completed weekly, it is submitted in Canvas according to assigned due dates. At mid-term, the student should have earned approximately 200 hours. An Excel file is provided in Canvas for use by students.
Mid-Term Evaluation Assignment
The Mid-Term Evaluation Form is completed by the internship site supervisor provides an evaluation of the performance of the student. The completed evaluation forms may be submitted through Canvas to the instructor of the course.
Time Log & Journal: Final Assignment
A Final Time Log & Journal should be completed by the student in order to document the activities and responsibilities of the student throughout the duration of the internship. Although this log must be completed weekly, it is submitted in Canvas according to assigned due dates. By the end of the semester, the student should have earned a minimum of 400 hours. Final Evaluation Assignment

Internship Portfolio Assignment
The Internship Portfolio provides background information on the internship host site, and requires the student to analyze the structure of the organization and reflect on his or her overall experience. This is to be submitted through Canvas.
