Rationale
The practicum requires 225 hours in the health sciences field. It is intended to give students hands on opportunities to practice their craft in a field related to their study and vocational aspirations. This course is conducted in a 15-week format to provide adequate time to gain valuable experience and to fully develop a project or to complete meaningful research in health sciences. The practicum experience should support the applied doctoral research project that will be developed in HSCI 888, 889, and 890.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Discussions in this course will be used to provide updates regarding the practicum experience with the professor and peers. Replies are optional for these discussions but you are encouraged to interact with peers. Each practicum experience is unique and this course provides the opportunity for intra-professional interactions. (CLO: B, F)
The student will create a timeline related to when he/she expects to complete each step of the project process along with his/her goals for the semester. The purpose of this assignment is to assist student with time management. A list of one goal with three to five objectives related to the dissertation process and a visual display of tasks related to the dissertation process along with when those tasks are expected to be completed is required.
The student will find five academic journals and three conferences within his/her profession of health sciences. The student will summarize the rules for publishing in these academic journals and presenting at the conferences. Lastly, the student will explain why the dissemination of research is important. The student will choose 10 relevant research articles or government sources to create an Annotated Bibliography. Annotations must be 150–250 words for each source. The annotated bibliography topic must be directly related to the work taking place at the practicum site. (CLO: C)
The student will expand on the draft by including a total of 20 relevant research articles or government sources to create an Annotated Bibliography. A draft of the presentation page must be submitted to verify professor access to the page. The following elements should be included. The biographical sketch, practicum goal and objectives. Lastly place holders for the video, pictures, and some text to show progress on the project and practicum experience.
The student may use Adobe Spark, Microsoft Sway, Microsoft narrated PowerPoint or another equivalent application to create an engaging presentation regarding the practicum experience. The presentation will provide the student a deliverable that can be shared and serve as an online portfolio of work. The page should include the student’s biographical sketch, a least one video, three pictures, and sufficient text highlighting tasks and projects completed at the practicum site and any created works. The student will provide a short 3-6 page essay style paper reflecting on the practicum experience. Explain how the objectives of the practicum were met. If practicum objectives were not met, explain why and how the experience could have been different. Did coursework within the program prepare the student for the experience? Why or why not? Discuss the Biblical implications of the practicum experience and the target population. (CLO: E)
The student must contact the instructor via internet video call software such as Microsoft Teams or WebEx to discuss the course expectations and project plan. In preparation for this interaction, the student should share a copy of his/her practicum objectives and project plan which was created in HSCI 798 and details regarding the practicum site. The quiz contains 3 true/false and file-upload questions and has a time limit of 30 minutes. (CLO: A)
The student will log at least 225 hours in service to their practicum location/organization. The quiz contains 1 file-upload question and has a time limit of 30 minutes. (CLO: B)
The student will provide his/her supervisor with a template for his/her evaluation during the course of the practicum. This evaluation will then be provided to the professor for the student’s grade/evaluation. The quiz contains 1 file-upload question and has a time limit of 30 minutes. (CLO: A, B)
