Rationale
This course provides an overview of the immune system. The course will cover basic normal immune system functioning and abnormal immune system functioning. The course will also examine vaccine development and will discuss basic disease protection due to vaccines.

Discussions (3)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete 3 discussions in this course. For each discussion, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. The initial thread will be 500 words. Each reply will be 250 words.
COVID-19 Project Assignments (4)
This is a 4-part project. The student will research and give assessments on the COVID-19 pandemic, that began in 2019:
Situation Assessment Assignment
The student will write a research-based paper focusing on why COVID-19 became a pandemic, by discussing the beginning stages of the pandemic and how it developed. This assignment should be at least 5 pages in length, AMA format using at least 3 peer-reviewed journals within the last 5 years.
Media Response Report Assignment
The student will write a research-based paper that focuses on the media response to COVID-19, what were the pros/cons, how was health care effected and what was learned after this. This assignment should be at least 3 pages in length, AMA format, using at least 3 peer-reviewed journals within the last 5 years.
Designing a Mask Mandate Campaign Assignment
The student will analyze the pandemic and the efficiency of the social distancing and mask mandate with facts and statistics. Understanding the virulence of the virus was it effective, how did socio-economics and demographics play a role in the community. The student must mention culture in its response as well. This should be at least 3 pages in length with an abstract summarizing the paper, AMA format, using at least 3 peer-reviewed journals within the last 5 years.
Implementation Assignment
The student will edit previous installments of the project based on instructor feedback and combine them to produce a single document. The student will write an additional section devoted to writing a convincing letter to Congress for or against vaccine development and the continuous appearance of variants. This should be a combination paper. This section should be at least 4 pages in length (total of 15 pages for combination paper) and use at least 5 peer-reviewed journals within the last 5 years.
Case Study Assignments (2)
Here students will critically analyze 2 case studies in two different modules in the term and write a 3-4 page paper to discuss their findings. Questions will be given for them to answer as well in these case studies.
Quizzes (4)
Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the Module: Week in which it is assigned. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain a variety of 10 multiple-choice and/or true/false questions, and have a 30- to 40-minute time limit.
