The course is a study of health policy and management concerns regarding the delivery, quality and cost of healthcare for individuals and populations. It reviews the structure, process and outcomes of health services including costs, financing, organization and accessibility to care.

This course provides the foundational understanding for the organization and function of the public health and health care delivery systems in the United States. As a core requirement in the study of public health, it presents the public and private sector entities that impact both individual and population-based aspects of health care, including health policy and planning, legal and ethical issues, and safety and preparedness. The course will emphasize critical examination of the health care delivery system as it currently exists, and of contemporary efforts to improve its efficiency.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread of 400 words to the provided prompt for each discussion. The student will then submit replies of 200 words to at least 2 classmates. AMA style formatting, in-text referencing with a minimum of 2 peer-reviewed resources is required on all posts and replies. Resume or Curriculum Vitae Assignment

The student will research the support services available to them at the LU Career Center and engage with a Career Coach. The student will create a Cover Letter and a Resume or CV and submit it for critique at the LU Career Center. Please review carefully the Resume or Curriculum Vitae Assignment Instructions document. Policy Commentary Assignment

A policy commentary is a scholarly response to a newly published article within the same journal. The purpose of a commentary is to help further advance research about the policy and can be written from a variety of perspectives, including a scholarly critique to interjection of professional experience with the policy and its impact. The commentary should be 1500-2000 words, including a brief 100-word abstract that precedes the body (the abstract does not count toward the 2000 words). Be sure to review Policy Commentary Assignment Instructions and the rubric. (CLO: C)

Quiz: Resume or Curriculum Vitae Career Center Submission

The student will submit his/her Resume or CV for critique at the LU Career Center. This quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 1 file-upload question, and will have no time limit. (CLO: B)

There will be a quiz in each module that covers the Learn material pertaining to that module. Each quiz contains 10 multiple-choice and true/false questions with a time limit of 30 minutes. The quizzes are open-book and open-notes. (CLO: E)
