GOVT 482 Counter-Intelligence
Course Description
A study of counter-intelligence from the analytical and operational perspectives. It focuses on the security phase of intelligence covering those activities devoted to destroying the effectiveness of hostile competition’s intelligence activities and to protecting one’s own information and intelligence methods.

Rationale
The student will learn what counterintelligence is as an instrument of statecraft and as the tradecraft of intelligence officers. Moreover, the student will become familiar with important historical case studies of CI successes and failures in times of war and peace. The student will gain conceptual grounding in the definition, purpose, and dimensions of CI, and he or she will also learn the history and context of Russian and Chinese CI challenges to the United States from the Cold War until now.
