FACS 530 Interior Design

This course is an overview of the professional standards and vocation of interior design. Through project-based experiential learning, students will develop skills in drafting, space planning, lighting design, and FF&E (furniture, fixture, & equipment) selection and specification. Incorporating the principles and elements of design, students will learn how to specify appropriate interior finishes, incorporate sustainable design strategies, and apply ADA standards to their projects.

Designed for students seeking FACS Teacher Licensure, this course introduces the profession of interior design through research and application.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be 250 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to two other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 150 words. All threads and replies are to include 1 scholarly source in APA format.

Weekly Sketch Assignments (7)

Each week the student will sketch a prescribed topic, scan the sketch, and submit it.

Rendering and Drafting Assignments (7)

The student must complete Rendering and Drafting 7 assignments that will test his/her abilities in a variety of tasks. 

Research Paper: Architectural Movements Assignment

The student will write a 1,000-word, research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on an architectural movement. The paper must include at least four reference(s) in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.

Quizzes (7)

Each quiz will cover the Reading & Study material for the assigned module. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain short answer, fill-in-the-blank, multiple-choice, true/false, essay, and matching questions. The quizzes have a two hour time limit. 

Quiz: Comprehensive Final

The Quiz: Comprehensive Final will cover the Learn material throughout the course. The quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 21 multiple-choice, true/false, short answer, matching, and essay questions, and have a 2-hour time limit.
