Bibliographic research in the field of ethnomusicology. Students will identify, access, evaluate, and interpret ethnomusicology resources and materials in preparation for performing research regarding the socio-musical culture of selected ethnic group(s).

This course is designed to provide the student with bibliographic research skills concentrated on a specific ethnic group for the purpose of developing strategies for potential fieldwork. Primary emphasis is on accessing information related to unreached people groups that are potential areas of service.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be 300 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 150 words. For the thread, the student must support his/her assertations with at least 1 scholarly citation in Turabian format. Acceptable sources include any course texts, the Bible, and any relevant academic source.

Writing Exercise Assignments (4)

Throughout the course, the student will be asked to complete various research-related exercises. These exercises are designed to allow the student to experience various research processes, which will help with the development of the Literature Review.

Annotated Bibliography Assignment

The Annotated Bibliography must contain at least 25 sources relevant to the student’s chosen research topic and must be formatted in current Turabian style. The annotated bibliography must contain a description of each source, with a minimum of three (3) sentences per source.

Literature Review Assignments (3)

Literature Review: Topic Submission Assignment

The student will submit a topic selection with rationale for his/her Literature Review.

Literature Review: Working Version Assignment

Once the topic is approved, a working version of the Literature Review will be submitted for instructor feedback.

Literature Review: Final Version Assignment

The student will then submit the final version of the Literature Review in current Turabian format and incorporating any suggestions offered by the instructor. The Literature Review must be at least 12 pages in length.
