Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be 250 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. The student must seek to find biblical and theological principles innate in the topic and support these biblical principles with hermeneutical wisdom and insight. The thread must include a minimum of 2 peer-reviewed references authored in the last 5 years and a Bible reference. The student is also required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads, focusing on a meaningful point made in each thread and bringing clarity to the issues being discussed. The replies must relate issues to biblical principles and experience. Each reply must be 150 words and include a minimum of 1 peer-reviewed reference authored in the last 5 years and a Bible reference. All references must be cited in current APA format. Each thread and reply must have a logical flow, with major points stated in complete, clear, and concise sentences with no spelling or grammar errors. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Reflection and Application Assignments (6)

The student will complete 6 Reflection and Application Assignments focused on relevant topics tied to the course readings and outcomes outlined in this course. Each Reflection and Application Assignment will be completed in 2 parts. In total, each assignment must be 300 words, using APA citations as relevant. The student must include at least one scholarly, peer-reviewed article or book (not the textbooks) relevant to the topic at hand, plus any additional, supplementary sources the student wants to use to address the biblical reflection portion of the assignment. The assignment must contain title and references pages. Main points must be clearly stated and easily understood, with exceptional writing and no spelling or grammar errors.

The first part of each assignment is an application of the material covered in the course. This often will take the form of a response to a question or a reading. The student must make arguments for a particular position, with a logical progression of ideas to reach conclusions that show critical thinking. Opinions and facts must be clearly distinguished and others’ ideas attributed to selected sources. The student must present opposing viewpoints fairly and conduct a thorough analysis of each issue raised in the paper. Originality, creativity, and true interaction with the sources (rather than restatement) must be evident throughout.

The second part of each assignment is a reflection component focused on how to integrate a biblical worldview when applying information vocationally. The reflection must be theologically astute, hermeneutically sound, and professionally helpful. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Environmental Health and Safety Research Assignments (2)

The student will write two concise papers that address topics of significant importance to the safety profession. Each of the Environmental Health and Safety Research Assignments requires a 1,200–1,400-word paper following current APA formatting. The papers must include a title page and a reference page, which will not count toward the length requirement, and proper section headings throughout. Papers must include at least 5 peer-reviewed resources published within the last 5 years and focused on the topic at hand. The following must be present: a clear thesis statement and indication of the topic, a clear overview of the paper’s content, clear transitions between paragraphs and sections, and a conclusion with a good summary of the main issues and points for further study. Main points must be clearly stated and easily understood, with no spelling or grammar errors.
