Course Description
Introduction to the principles involved in designing statistical quality control systems. Topics include historical concepts of quality, customer expectations and benchmarking, probability concepts, process control of variation via control chart concepts and sampling inspection plans.

Rationale
This course will introduce engineering students to some of the major topics dealing with quality assurance. The course will reinforce concepts learned in probability and statistics as well as provide a basis for how those topics are used in conjunction with quality assurance and quality control. The course will equip the engineer with concepts of six sigma quality improvement process, which is a common set of techniques and methods understood by nearly all manufacturing companies, health care organizations, and distribution centers. Additionally, this course will provide the engineer with the necessary skill set to implement control charts and inspection plans used by nearly all manufacturing companies, health care organizations, and distribution centers.

Discussions (8)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. The student is required to create a thread of at least 100 words, providing at least 1 scholarly citation. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to the threads of at least 2 other classmates. Each reply must be at least 100 words. All references must be cited in current APA format. (CLO: 5)
Homework Assignments (8)
The student will complete 8 Homework Assignments in the course. Each Homework Assignment will cover concepts discussed during the assigned module: week. All work must be submitted in a single Word document to the Homework Assignment submission link of the assigned module: week. (CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, & 7)
Quizzes (8)
The student will complete an open book/notes quiz during each module: week. Each quiz consists of anywhere between 3 – 9 essay questions and covers the textbook material from the assigned module: week. There is a 2 hour limit for these quizzes. Each quiz will be completed in Canvas. (CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, & 7)
