The overall purpose of this class is to equip students, within a Christian, biblical worldview, to pursue further studies in English language arts at the doctoral level, as well as to prepare for careers related to the field. To those ends, British literature is foundational for all literary studies in Western literature.

Discussions (7)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to submit a thread in response to the provided prompt listed in the discussion. The thread is due by Thursday of the assigned module. Each thread must be 150-200 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 100 words and should engage in the thesis of the peer’s original thread and should be submitted by Sunday of the assigned module.

Short Essay Assignment

The student will complete a 1000–1200-word (approx. 3-4 pages) essay applying Christian Literary Theory to either Paradise Lost or Pilgrim’s Progress.

Research Paper Assignments (4)

The student will complete a 12 – 15 page scaffolded research paper, applying a selected literary theory to a text of their choice.

Proposal Assignment

The student will submit a 250-word proposal for their research paper to identify their primary text and literary theory to be applied.

Bibliography Assignment

The student will submit a working bibliography of at least 12 secondary sources for use in their research paper.

First Page Assignment

The student will submit the first page of their research paper.

Final Draft Assignment

The student will submit the final draft of their research paper.
