Rationale
Selecting a capstone research topic early in the doctoral journey is essential for timely completion. It is also important for the doctoral candidate to be able to show the practical contribution his/her research will make to the field. This course will help the candidate narrow and refine his/her research focus through developing an argument for his/her proposed research that is grounded in a literature review.

Evidence of Approved Research Topic Assignment
The student will upload a screenshot of the research topic approved by their professor in EDUC 816. The evidence submitted for this assignment requires specific core elements and the instructor’s approval statement be clearly apparent. (CLO: B)
The student will develop an annotated bibliography, with a focus on the research topic. The assignment should include at least 20 empirical, scholarly/peer-reviewed sources that have been published within the past 4 years. Each annotation should be a minimum of 250 words in length. Specific requirements that must be addressed in each annotation are included in the assignment instructions. The assignment requires a cover page and an abstract, and current APA format must be used. For this assignment, the student will locate four current (published within the past four years) peer-reviewed journal articles related to their research topic. The student will complete the Individual Scholarly Works Template for each article. (CLO: B)
The student will use four peer-reviewed articles to complete a form regarding a theory related to their research topic. An example is provided. (CLO: B)
Literature Review: Outline Assignment
The student will complete an outline based on the Literature Review: Annotated Bibliography, which must be in current APA format and a minimum of 5 full pages of narrative. The outline must include Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 headings. You must use full sentences and incorporate all 20 of approved references that you used for the Annotated Bibliography. An example is provided. (CLO: A, C)
Scholarly Works Synthesis: Narrative Assignment
The student will complete the Comparative Scholarly Works Template. A 1,000-word minimum must be written for each article. This comparison is where the student will write using their voice, as the researcher. (CLO: B)
Biblical Integration Assignment
Students will write a biblical integration paper, which connects the standards of ethics to be considered during the writing phase of the applied research process to specific scripture in the Bible. The paper must be between 2500 – 3000 words (not including the cover page, abstract or reference pages) and integrate course- related knowledge. Students must include 8 peer-reviewed, scholarly journal articles (references to be published within the past four years) along with multiple citations to the Bible (other holy books cannot be used for this assignment). This paper and the resources used must be unique to this class, as no portion of the assignment can have been used in other coursework. (CLO: D)
Theoretical Framework: Theoretical Framework Assignment
The student will develop a theoretical framework using one or more prominent theories relates to their research. The assignment must include cover, abstract and reference pages, be 500-750 words in length, and written in current APA format. The paper must include Level 1 and Level 2 headings. (CLO: A, B, C)
Literature Review: Narrative Review Assignment
The student will write a narrative review portion of the literature review on their research topic. The narrative review will follow the basic structure of the textbook example and will be a minimum of 4000 words, excluding the title, abstract and reference pages. The narrative review will utilize the sources approved in the annotated bibliography and must follow current APA format and include multiple citations for each of the 20 scholarly/peer-reviewed resources used in the Literature Review: Outline Assignment.
