EDUC 633 Principles of Design and Management in Educational Technology and Online Learning

This course is designed to assist the education professional in developing a solid foundation in instructional design and current research. The student will develop the skills and knowledge to advance their instructional effectiveness in varied settings through application of technology theory and practice.

This course exists to give the student the skills needed to design and manage instructional projects in the growing and changing distance education environment. The student will learn about the importance of integrating the principles of instructional design into the development of training, support, and all facets of instructional technology management for various environments.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 400-500 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and be supported by at least two scholarly sources. Citations and a reference list are required in current APA format. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 other classmate’s threads. Each reply must be at least 150-250 words and supported by at least one scholarly source. (CLO: A, B, C)

The candidate will choose one Instructional Design Model such as ADDIE, ASSURE, SAMS, or another of their choosing, and analyze it using tone of Antonenko et al.’s assumptions about differences among individuals in their learning. The body of the paper must be 4-6 pages (not including the title, abstract, and reference pages) and must use support from at least three scholarly sources in addition to the textbook. Sources should be within 5 years. (CLOs: B, C, F)

The candidate will compose a paper discussing how an educational technology tool of their choosing could be utilized in a classroom to motivate and engage students in learning. Candidate may focus on a particular tool if they like, as well as a particular subject matter. The body of the paper must be 4-6 pages (not including the title, abstract, and reference pages) and must use support from at least three scholarly sources in addition to the textbook. Sources should be within 5 years. (CLOs: B, C, F)

Candidate will submit a video presentation reviewing three applications (apps) that can be used to enhance learning. Examples of such apps would be Kahoot! and Quizlet. The presentation should be created as if it would be used at a professional conference of the candidate’s peers. The presentation will be submitted as a 6–10-minute video. The video should be recorded as narration accompanying the use of presentation software such as PowerPoint, Prezi, Keynote, etc. The presentation must be supported by the literature; however, citations can be in the form of simply mentioning the source in the narration. A reference list must be provided at the end of the presentation. The video recording of the presentation must be submitted by embedding it in Canvas. The video will be graded on content and production quality. (CLOs: C, D)

The candidate will choose a scenario in an educational setting in which technology is used. Examples would be “the use of Google Classroom in an elementary class,” “the use of an LMS in an undergraduate online business college,” and “programmed-learning modules in military training.” It would be best if the scenario is practical for the candidate. The candidate will prepare a paper that will be an analysis of methods to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational technology in the chosen setting. The paper should, after the introduction, provide a description of the setting and then provide the methodology for evaluation along with a supported rationale. The paper will be 4-6 pages, in addition to the title, abstract, and reference pages, and be supported by at least 3 scholarly sources in addition to the textbooks. (CLO: C, D)

Professional Development is commonly used in schools to provide needed training for teachers. The candidate will write a paper that will detail a plan for Professional Development to provide instruction in the use of technology in the classroom. The paper will be 6-10 pages in addition to the title, abstract, and reference pages and be supported by at least three scholarly sources in addition to the textbooks. Sources should be within 5 years, other than sources regarding learning theory or those which provide historical perspective. (CLO: E. F)

The candidate will submit a video presentation explaining ethics in ID as it relates to a Biblical Worldview. At least 3 sources should be used. The presentation should be created as if it would be used at a professional conference of peers. The presentation will be submitted as a 6 to 10 minute video. The video should be recorded as narration accompanying the use of a presentation software such as PowerPoint, Prezi, Keynote, etc. (CLOs: C, D)

Candidate will submit a video presentation exploring how the benefits and barriers of using educational technology to serve students with diversities. Candidate should first choose a specific diversity to address. After the introduction, the paper should describe the chosen diversity, and then explore what benefit could be experienced by students with that diversity when educational technology is used. At least 3 sources should be used. The presentation should be created as if it would be used at a professional conference of the candidate’s peers. The presentation will be submitted as a 6-to-10 minute video. The video should be recorded as narration accompanying the use of a presentation software such as PowerPoint, Prezi, Keynote, etc. (CLOs: C, D)

The candidate will write a paper reflecting what the candidate has learned in this class. Special attention should be given to an application of class material on a real-life situation. The paper will be 2-4 pages in addition to the title, abstract and reference pages and be supported by at least 3 scholarly sources in addition to the textbooks. Sources should be within 5 years.
