CLED 740 Organizational Assessment and Development

This course examines the process of assessing organizational needs, issues, trends, and dynamics within the faith-based organization. This course will examine how to determine the causes of performance gaps and identify developmental solutions in an attempt to improve organizational effectiveness.

Organizational assessment and development within a faith-based organization must integrate a Christian worldview into the recognized practices and processes of assessment and organizational development. This course enables the student to understand the processes of assessment and organizational development within the unique context of the faith-based setting.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will engage in dialogue via online discussion throughout this course about selected topics related to organizational assessment. For these discussions, the student is required to create a thread of at least 400 words in length in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. For each thread, the student must support his/her assertations with at least 2 scholarly citations. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads with 200 words for each reply.  Each reply must incorporate at least one academic citation. All sources used must be cited in APA format. (CLO: A, B, C) 

Organizational Culture and Change Assignment

The student will research and write a 1,250-1,750-word paper on the relationship between organizational culture and organizational change. Specifically, the student will be required to discuss the Cultural Web theory, the Cultural Iceberg Model, and the relationship between Organizational Culture and the Change Process. This paper will be researched-based and should interact with key thought leaders discussed within course lectures (the theories of Edgar Schein, Gerry Johnson, Kevan Scholes, and Edward Hall must be discussed in the paper). The paper must include a minimum of 7 scholarly sources. Citations to course textbooks, the Bible, or Biblical commentaries do not count towards the 7-source requirement. This paper will be formatted according to current APA style guide requirements. (CLO: A) 

Logic Model Assignment

The student will develop a logic model for a recent activity that has taken place in his/her church in order to practice taking on the role of consultant within a known organization. Using the provided Logic Model Template, the student will define the problem being researched, determine all the inputs and outputs associated with the activity, identify key outcomes of the organization, and take into account any additional considerations about the program. After completing the logic models, the student will write a 2-page reflection on the process and share what he/she gleaned as a result of his/her work. The completed assignment should be at least three (3) pages in length and formatted according to current APA style guidelines. (CLO: B)

Organizational Profile and Interview Guide Assignment

The student will research an organization and develop an organizational profile and interview guide that could be used in a consulting relationship. In completing this assignment, the student will visit his/her selected organization to observe and take field notes, research and develop a detailed profile of the organization, and develop a list of questions that could be used when interviewing individuals associated with the organization. When complete, the student will submit the observational research field notes, the organizational profile, and the organizational interview guide together in Canvas as a 5–6-page paper. This assignment should be formatted according to current APA style guidelines. (CLO: B)

Caring for the Wounded Assignment

The student will develop a small group lesson and discussion guide based on the teaching of a chapter of the book Aftermath: A Book for the Spiritually Wounded for practical use within a consulting relationship when working with a Church or Christian organization that has recently gone through a spiritual crisis. The assignment will include identifying 3 different topics for reflection/discussion, developing a list of 3-5 small group questions for discussion, and providing prompts for organizational leaders which enable them to effectively use the care guide. This paper will be 2-4 pages in length and will make use of current APA formatting. (CLO: C)
