Course Description
This course introduces major topics in business analytics, with an emphasis on descriptive analytical techniques and theory. Students will explore methods of data collection and analysis in gaining an understanding of variation and its impact on the business setting.

The data generated through this digital frontier is growing exponentially, creating new challenges as well as exciting opportunities. Finding data, making appropriate associations between data, constructing ways to communicate relationships of data, and applying business intelligence and analytics are fundamental to business in the digital age. Never before has there been so much information available for companies to strategize with, analyze, consume, and even market. The effective exploitation of analytical techniques and technologies will be an invaluable skill set for the company looking for opportunities to stay competitive while maintaining lean and efficient organizations.

Discussions (3)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt. Each thread must be 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 200 words.

The interactive activity assignments provide video walkthroughs of important concepts and chapter homework problems allow the student opportunities to demonstrate their understanding. The assignments will be accessed and completed through the Cengage Connect platform.
Problem Assignments (4)
The student will complete problem sets in order to practice chapter concepts and demonstrate understanding. These assignments will be accessed and completed through the Cengage Connect platform.
Data Mining Paper Assignment
The student will write a 3-5-page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on a data mining topic. In addition to the 3-5 page written requirement, a title page and reference page are to be included. The paper must include at least 3 reference(s) in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. At least 2 biblical references are required.
Quizzes (6)
Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned modules. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 10 questions, and have a 30-minute time limit.
Final Project Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to practice gaining analytical insights into a dataset by applying descriptive statistical practices. You will demonstrate your ability to communicate these findings to a non-technical audience. The text of your final project must exceed 750 words (3 pages). Use APA format and include a reference to your data source(s) as available.
