BMAL 633 Nonprofit Financial Planning

The mission of a nonprofit organization and the money to run the organization intersect. This course will explore forecasting, risk management and developing a long-term strategic plan for the capital budget, capital reserves, debt and acquisition of new capital.

This course is part of the core elements of the Masters in NonProfit Management for several cognates. Research bears out that nonprofit financial planning is crucial to the organization’s success. Understanding these issues near the beginning of the MNM program of study lays a foundation for the more advanced nonprofit courses.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will participate in 4 discussions. Both parts of the discussion (thread and replies) must be submitted by the published deadlines in order for the student to earn credit for either part of the discussion. The student will post one thread of at least 450 words, and then post two replies of at least 300 words each reply. For each thread and reply, the student must support their assertions with at least 3 scholarly citations in current APA format to include if they are citing the original author.

Essay Assignments (3)

The student will write three academic and scholarly papers delving into the week’s learning outcomes and applying the course’s theories and concepts.

Issue Essay: SWOT Analysis Assignment

For this assignment, the student will look up his/her chosen non-profit’s website (find the annual report) and his/her most recent 990 using the website provided in the assignment instructions document. The student will write a report on the nonprofit he/she chose in the beginning of the course. The student will conduct a SWOT analysis for the organization and identify strategic issues. (The student will use SWOT Analysis Handout (PDF) and his/her own research, and include the SWOT analysis in the paper as an appendix.) This assignment must be 1,000-1,500 words in length. The student must use at least 3 scholarly sources beyond the textbooks and Bible to substantiate their position.

Issue Essay: Working Capital Management Assignment

Working Capital Management is crucial to the sustainability of a nonprofit organization. The student will write a paper with an Introduction and Conclusion, and cover the following topics related to Nonprofits and working capital management. This assignment must be 1,000-1,500 words in length. The student must use at least 3 scholarly sources beyond the textbooks and Bible to substantiate their position.

Faith Integration Essay Assignment

This assignment seeks to integrate the course concepts and integrate them with Biblical concepts. More specifically, the student will write an essay describing how the Bible is related to the topics covered in the course. The student can choose one topic and go deep or he/she can cover 3 to 4 topics covered in the course related to nonprofits. This assignment must be 1,000-1,500 words in length. The paper must include at least 3 peer-reviewed references in addition to the Bible and course textbook.

Financial Analysis Research Paper Assignment

The student will write one 2500-3500-word academic and scholarly paper exploring one topic in depth related to course content and concepts. The student must use at least 3 scholarly sources beyond the textbooks and Bible to substantiate their position.
