BIOL 103 Principles of Biology Laboratory
Course Description
Laboratory exercises selected to demonstrate basic biological concepts. Emphasis is on plant and animal cell chemistry, composition and function, organismal structure and function, biological diversity and population ecology.

Rationale
Principles of Biology Laboratory is designed to show the student many of the principles and organisms studied in Principles of Biology (BIOL 101). The Lab will introduce the student to basic techniques which will be used to examine a diversity of God’s creation. Exercises are designed to introduce the student to the scientific method and to have them use it to answer specific questions.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will post a thread of at least 100 words in response to the provided prompt. The student will then reply to 2 peers’ threads in at least 100 words. Each thread must utilize at least 1 scholarly citation cited in current APA format. (CLO: A & E)
Labs (32)
The student will complete 32 virtual labs within the McGraw Hill Virtual Laboratory. The results of these labs will be submitted to Canvas in the respective assignment page. (CLO: B, C, & D)
The student will submit a variety of data from experiments completed from material provided in the Liberty Custom Biology 103 Kit. The student will need a digital camera/phone camera to document their responses to upload to Canvas. Some Lab Activity Assignments require the use of a printer. (CLO: B, C, D)
This assignment aligns with the following FSLOs: SSI 1, SSI 3, SSI 4.
Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes and will include 25 questions covering the information studied throughout the specified Modules. 2 quizzes will contain 25 multiple choice questions, 4 quizzes will contain true/false and multiple choice questions, 3 quizzes will contain multiple choice, true/false, and matching questions, 1 quiz will contain multiple choice, true/false, and multiple answer questions, and 1 quiz will contain multiple choice and multiple answer questions. The student will have 50 minutes to complete each quiz. Each quiz will allow for 1 attempt.
The Quiz: Science is a Way of Knowing contains 20 true-false questions, allows for 1 attempt, is open-book/open-notes, and includes a 30-minute time limit. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)
