Rationale
The New Testament letters of the apostle Paul are well appreciated as a rich source of theological and early NT church history, but sometimes overlooked is how the Pauline epistles can serve as a source of inspiration for doing ministry, as a way to engage in effectual prayer, and for learning tried and true principles of spiritual growth. By studying the Pauline epistles, and being intentional in reviewing Paul’s prayers for the New Testament churches, the issues, concerns and needs of the New Testament churches will become meaningful and relevant for doing church today.

Discussions (3)
The student will complete three Discussion Assignments. Discussions are integrative and collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the instructor’s prompt, provided for each discussion. The threads must be at least 250 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge, using the course texts and/or scholarly sources to support the content with at least one citation. Snapshot of a Pauline Epistle Assignment (3)
The student will complete the Snapshot of a Pauline Epistle Assignments for select epistles of Paul in set templates. After completing the specified readings of the texts and bible, the student will submit informed and reflective responses supported by the readings of both the bible and the course texts. Identification of key issues and concerns along with discussion of how the apostle Paul addressed such issues should demonstrate understanding of Paul’s approach to ministering to the needs of the Church. The student will also demonstrate correct use of inductive Bible study, especially in making observations, interpretation and suggesting ways of making the application, within the context of Paul’s consistent models of prayers. (CLOs: A, B, C)
Praying with Paul Assignments (2)
The student will complete two Praying with Paul Assignments that allows for an exploration of the micro-reading process in its engagement with two of Paul’s thirteen letters to the New Testament churches. Questions prompt for analysis and some investigation of the historical background and spiritual climate that served as the context for the writing of the Pauline Epistles. Focusing on discerning the spiritual needs prevalent in the early churches, and how Paul’s prayers were modeled in a way to address such needs, there is finally application of select conclusions in personal prayers. Consulting the relevant course texts, the student will answer questions about their readings, submitting them in a required template. (CLOs: B, C)
Personal Prayer Inventory
The student will complete the Personal Prayer Inventory Assignment, a tool designed to help identify and recommend effective prayer practices. Providing personal input during the early part of the course, the student will take inventory of his/her prayer life by providing reflective answers to all closed and open-ended questions. (CLO: B)
Quizzes (2)
The student will complete two learning assessments in the form of quizzes. Each quiz will cover the Learn material assigned throughout the course. These assessments will be open-book/open-notes, contain multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a time limit. (CLOs: A, B, C)
