BIBL 317 Minor Prophets

An expositional study of the twelve minor prophets of the Old Testament. Each book will be covered from the historical and theological perspective in addition to devotional value.

Most of the canonical prophets fall into the time period from approximately 750-400 B.C. This is a tumultuous period which featured the final years of the twin kingdoms, their exile, the return of Judah and the rebuilding of the second Temple. While the prophets increasingly focused on an impending day of great judgment (the Day of the Lord) their messages were largely oriented to the Covenants and the attendant consequences. Each prophet shaped his book to inform how his setting contributed to the furthering of the divine ‘Plan’ which was outlined in the Abrahamic Covenant. These themes and events provide the crucial foundation for the events in the New Covenant.

The paper must include at least 4 references to at least 2 academic resources in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. (CLO: A, B, D)

The student will write an analysis in current Turabian format that follows the provided template. The analysis focuses on the imagery, metaphors, message, and themes of Amos. The paper must include at least 5 references to at least 3 academic resources in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. The student will also include his or her revisions from the Minor Prophets Study: Passage Analysis Assignment. (CLO: A)

The student will write an analysis in current Turabian format that follows the provided template. The analysis focuses on connecting Amos’ message to the Minor Prophets, the Old Testament, and the New Testament and applying his message to the Christian life. The student will also include his or her revisions from the Minor Prophets Study: Passage Analysis Assignment and Minor Prophets Study: Imagery and Metaphor Assignment. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Module: Week. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 20 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 40 minute time limit. (CLO: A, B)
