BCOU 210 Introduction to Biblical Counseling

This course provides an overview of the theory and practice of biblical counseling. The major approaches to biblical counseling will be overviewed and analyzed regarding their biblical and theological foundations. The student will develop an awareness of the various options regarding approaches to biblical counseling and develop skills to apply various approaches to the practice of biblical counseling.

The field of biblical counseling is a subset of the field of counseling. Biblical counseling affirms a unique worldview and the authority of Scripture in the field of counseling. Even with this understanding, various approaches to biblical counseling have been developed and need to be understood and analyzed to discern their merit and applicability to the practice of biblical counseling.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete each Discussion by creating a thread of at least 150 words and replying to at least 2 other student’s posts in at least 75 words in the Modules: Weeks in which Discussions are assigned. The student must post in a manner that propels the conversation forward. The student must utilize at least one citation in each thread and reply. (CLO: A, B)

Illustrative Assignments (2)

The student will complete 2 graphic illustration assignments in this course. These are graphic presentations of material covered in the assigned Module: Week. Essentially, these assignments will allow the student to use texts, shapes, and images to demonstrate his/her understanding of key course content. (CLO: B, C)

Collaborative Assignments (2)

This assignment is an opportunity for the student to put into practice what he/she has learned throughout the course. Specifically, the student will ask two questions and provide replies of at least 25 words to the instructor’s answers. Please see specific assignment instructions for this assignment in Canvas. (CLO: C)

Essay Assignments (3)

The student will complete 3 essays. One will be a critical thinking essay and the other 2 will be reflection essays. All essays should utilize Turabian style formatting and include a cover page and bibliography. The Critical Thinking essay word count should be at least 1000 words and include at least four sources. The 2 reflection essays must be at least 500 words each. (CLO: A)

Quizzes (3)

The student will complete three quizzes. Each Quiz is 10 multiple-choice questions. There is no time limit on the quiz and the quizzes are open book. (CLO: A)
