AVIA 681 Capstone Project

Students will complete their proposed aviation Capstone Project through the implementation phase while working with their Capstone Project mentor. The goal of the aviation capstone is to provide students with an industry-centered educational experience focused within their chosen cognate. The capstone experience seeks to challenge and expose students to cognate specific real-world problems, constraints, and performance issues. Students will seamlessly merge a biblical worldview into practical applications throughout the culminating capstone experience.

After reading the Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

The student will complete the Discussion: Class Introductions in a visual presentation format. The visual presentation must include a recorded presentation of at least 2 minutes and no more than 5 minutes. The student should be creative with the presentation. The student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 150 words and include a question or relevant follow-up response to guide the discussion.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will have the opportunity to review his/her fellow classmate’s work and offer insightful and constructive feedback on multiple assignments. The student will post his/her rough draft in the Peer-Review Discussion as his/her thread and read his/her peers’ papers. The student will review 1 classmate’s paper (assigned by the professor) and provide feedback directly on the paper as his/her reply. Each reply must be at least 150 words. (CLO: A, D, E)

Each student will log 40 hours in the implementation of his/her project. The implementation of the Aviation Capstone is the culminating experience of hands-on learning with expertise in the aviation field of study and topic chosen. While at the Implementation Site, the student must have a mentor who is supervising and guiding the experience.

The implementation is a multifaceted experience with two components. The student must fulfill each component in sequential order.

  1. Implementation Site and Plan Paper Assignment and Implementation Site and Plan Paper: Signatures Verification Assignment
  2. Implementation Site Logs Assignment and Implementation Site Logs: Signatures Verification Assignment

(CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

The mentor is an important component of the student’s implementation. This is an opportunity for the student to talk over his/her capstone topic, research, implementation, and conclusions with an expert in the aviation field. The goal is to use the mentor’s expertise in discussing the capstone project plan, implementation, and results of the student’s capstone project.

There are two assignments that must be accomplished.

  1. Mentor Interview Reflection Paper Assignment
  2. Aviation Industry Mentor Implementation Site Evaluation Form Assignment

(CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Capstone Proposal Paper Revision Assignment

The student will submit the Capstone Proposal Paper submitted in AVIA 680, and will submit a revised and further developed Capstone Proposal Paper incorporating feedback and corrections provided by the student’s AVIA 680 professor. The paper must be in current APA format. This assignment must be submitted in two places: Capstone Proposal Paper Revision Assignment and Capstone Proposal Paper Revision: Submission Assignment

The Aviation Capstone involves researching and writing a 20-30 page paper about a chosen topic. This page count does not include pictures, charts, or graphs. It also does not include the title page, abstract, 3-tier outline, reference pages, and appendices. The literature support must include a minimum of 20 scholarly sources, 2 biblical scholarly sources dated 7 years old or less, and the Bible (The Bible does not count as one of the 20 + 2 scholarly sources; however, it must be used in the paper.). The minimum required list of reference sources should be those published in the last 7 years. Older sources may be used if relevant, but they will not count in the 20 + 2 minimum. Each of the sources should be cited at least twice in the paper, meaning the paper should have at least 44 in-citations plus Bible verses. The paper must be in current APA format. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

The student presentation should incorporate all aspects of thinking on the topic chosen: examination of Scripture, research, discussions, and conclusions based on knowledge, experience, and reflection of efforts. A biblical worldview should be intrinsically and purposefully woven throughout the entire presentation. Presentation should demonstrate mastery of capstone, content, implementation, and reflection of the Aviation Capstone. The presentation must be between 10 and 15 minutes. The student is required to use an electronic visual aid for the speech and the student’s face must be seen during the speech. Additionally, at least 2 high-quality peer-reviewed literature sources must be cited orally during the presentation, including the publication, date, person, and credentials when possible. At least 2 verses must be used to present the final conclusion from a Christian worldview, and at least 1 personal experience must be used to explain the student’s final conclusions.
