AVIA 304 Aviation History

The ability for humans to take to the air and space has created some dramatic events in history. This course focuses on those historical events as well as aviation pioneers, covering aviation development that was bound by gravity, to breaking beyond those bonds and reaching into space. This course will paint a broad overview of historical people and events that have defined and created the aerospace industry.

Aviation History takes students back in time to explore the principles that formed aviation and the technological breakthroughs since the inception of flight. Students will explore the innovation made by aviation pioneers in order to see how those innovations challenge future explorations within the aerospace industry.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student must complete various Discussions in this course. Each student will post an initial thread of 300-400 words for each Discussion. In addition, the student must then post 2 replies of 150-200 words. These are intended to be scholarly dialogues and for each thread, the student must support his/her assertions with proper scholarly support in APA format with sources listed as References at the end of the post.

Video Discussion: Exploration in Time Presentation

The student must prepare a visual and audio briefing/presentation regarding various explorations to include applicable references from this course. The visual presentation must include a 3-5 minute recorded video or narrated presentation thoroughly covering one of the provided topics. Within the presentation, the student must include and cite from appropriate historical aviation resources. A minimum of 2 scholarly sources are required.

Research Paper: Final Assignment

The student must complete a final research paper of 7-8 pages on one of the provided topics. An abstract of at least 150 words must also be included, and at least 3 scholarly sources (not including the textbook or Bible) must be cited. Proper APA formatting is required.

Virtual Tour Assignment

The student must complete a virtual tour of an air museum and write a 2-3 page review of three different models of air or space craft from different eras of aviation. At least one model of aircraft must be from the Digital Age of aviation. The review for each model must be 150-250 words in length, and at least one museum must be cited. Proper APA formatting is required.

Quizzes (4)

The student will complete 4 quizzes in this course. Each quiz will contain 20 multiple-choice/true-false questions. The quizzes are each open-book/open-note, with a time limit of 2 hours.
