ARTS 574 Interactive Game Design
Course Description
Students will explore and pursue areas of interest through research related to interactive game development in regards to theoretical framework, building aesthetics, environments, and game engines with implementation of process and execution of interactive games in an appropriate platform. May be taken twice.

Rationale
As game design becomes increasing democratized, the graphic designer can now develop systematic games employing a wide range of available technologies in which both design aesthetic and functionality is achievable in touch and non-touch environments.

Discussions (8)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 250 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 100 words.
Project: Game Document and Demo Assignments
The student will create a working interactive mobile game prototype using the personal edition of Unity Game Engine (www.unity3d.com). The student will build the basic structure and construct through www.lynda.com tutorials. The student will then create graduate quality retina ready graphics and additional sprites and textures to modify his/her own version based on the guided framework created. This Project includes a Proposal: Game Document and Demo , 5 Milestones: Game Document and Demo Project Progression , and a Project: Game Document and Demo (Final Submission).
Quizzes (8)
Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the Module: Week in which it is assigned. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 8 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 20-minute time limit.
